An Interview with Peter Smith

Peter Smith made plays all year for the Mount Pleasant defense. He played in all 9 games and recorded 96 total tackles. 46 of those being solo tackles. Smith made our Defensive Player of the Week list and was always in the conversation week in and week out. He was also named 2nd team all-conference and was gracious enough to take time out of his day to answer some questions.

1. What has being a Mount Pleasant Football player meant to you?

It means playing through adversity, sacrificing your whole self for the team and giving all that you have for your teammates on and off the field. It has been a huge priority for me over the last couple years.

2. How has being a part of this team made you a better person?

I’ve been lucky to form so many great relationships with everyone involved in the program. I’ve learned to push through pain and fight back when adversity presents itself.

3. What is your favorite memory of football. Take me through that play.

My favorite memory was this last year against Bay City Western when we caused a safety in the north end zone. That moment was the loudest in community memorial stadium and on the sideline all year. Everyone went nuts. Those are the moments I will miss the most.

4. What Athlete do you like to mimic your work ethic and game off of? Explain?

Luke Kuechly/ Ray Lewis. Extremely high energy and tough, resilient players. Both were not expected to be as successful as they are today, both were told they were too small, not good enough.

5. What advice can you give for future mount pleasant Football players?

Put your team before yourself. Never hold back during a game and enjoy it as much as you can while it lasts.

6. If you could play college football where would you play and what position would it be?

Michigan Tech or the Naval Academy and linebacker or outside linebacker.

7.  What is your ESPN'S "Come on man!" moment. Be honest!

When Trey Wentworth went down with a broken wrist. He’s dealt with so many setbacks and those were massive shoes to fill. Still have nightmares about that moment in Lapeer.

8. What is your biggest takeaway from Oiler Football?

You get out what you put in. There’s so much that goes into a season, but if you do the work in the offseason and set a goal to make an impact somewhere for the team you might just make it happen. Nothing really beats hard work.

It is obvious after this interview that Peter Smith bleeds blue and gold and left everything he had on the field week in and week out.
