Oiler Pride 9-24-17


 This week against the Lapeer Lightning, the Oilers took a hard loss to the tune of 52-27. Unfortunately, this makes every game from here on out for Mount Pleasant a must-win game if they even want to have a shot at getting into the playoffs based on playoff points at 5-4. If they cannot find a way to win out, they will likely spend the rest of the season fighting to send the seniors out the best way possible while they're still in an Oiler helmet. While they found some success against a formidable Lightning defense, in the end it wasn't enough. Lapeer found little difficulty against the Oiler defense and cruised early and often. Mount Pleasant hosts Flint Southwestern this Friday for a 7:00 kickoff in hopes to save the season.

Mount Pleasant's Freshmen Football Team Dominance For those unfamiliar with the ninth grade football players at Mt. Pleasant high school, let me inform you all. They are traveling to Heritage tomorrow with a record of 7-0-1, the tie coming against cross-town rival Midland. The last two years have been a struggle for the freshmen team posting records of 5-4 in 2015 and 4-5 in 2016. A large part of this year's team success is because of the involvement Varsity head coach Jason Mcintyre has with the rocket league team in Mount Pleasant. Not only does he familiarize them with the play calling and running exact plays which the high school does, but he also teaches them proper fundamentals of form and angle tackling, blocking, ball security, and basic zone coverages. In the Spotlight: Caleb Vasquez

Caleb Vasquez is coming off his final season of football at Mount Pleasant High School. The Senior Tackle has had quite a journey throughout his time as an Oiler making lifelong memories with his friends and teammates, on and off the field. Caleb was kind enough to do an interview and answer a few questions about the season, his memories at Mount Pleasant High School, with football in general, and what his future plans are looking like. -The season did not end the way you expected it to, but what can you take away from this season? "Of course I am upset we didn't make the playoffs, but I wouldn't take anything back that happened this season because it showed me and my teammates how to fight back and never give in. We started off the season 1-4 unfortunately and I knew people were doubting us, so as a team we all focused on one game at a time and we ended up winning the last 4 games of the season to end up with a positive record of 5-4" -Favorite game/memory
